About Linux Routers
The Evolution of the Router Market
Open source technology and the Linux operating system have enabled the evolution
of the router market. Using off-the-shelf components and the Linux operating
system, a new breed of "commodity" routers can now run on Linux rather than on a
proprietary operating system, such as one that Cisco Systems uses for its
routers. Because a Linux license is free, there are no incremental or recurring
software license fees for developers or end users, making Linux routers more
convenient and less expensive to use. |
